Northramp’s Proven Performance
Establishing AI Governance
U.S. International Development Finance Corporation
Northramp supported the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) with accelerating their AI capabilities through the development of Governance and Ethical Use Policies. The DFC Governance Policy provides the governance criteria for all AI at the agency and establishes the role of the CAIO (Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer). The AI Ethical Use Policy ensures that all AI in use is compliant with federal regulations and ethical standards.
The Northramp team developed the DFC AI Council structure that includes senior IT leadership along with the new CAIO (Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer) role that would oversee all AI governance and reviews at the agency to address the requirements of OMB M-24-10. After the AI team completes their technical review, the council’s role is to provide final recommendations to the CIO on whether the AI product should be purchased and implemented.
Northramp also defined the AI Review Criteria for all AI products prior to implementation in the agency’s IT environment. The new AI Review process is completed in parallel to the cybersecurity and data privacy review stage of IT products prior to purchase and implementation. In addition, our team worked closely with DFC to further improve the maturity and value of the data sources leveraged by their AI solutions which enhanced the overall applicability and quality of its outputs.
Enhancing Data Quality Through Automation
Multiple Agencies
Northramp has proven experience with designing and implementing data pipelines for ingesting and integrating data from a wide variety of sources. By leveraging advanced data cleansing and transformation techniques, as well as automating analytical workflows, we ensure high data integrity while significantly accelerating data processing. This enables stakeholders to access accurate, real-time insights with minimal latency, thereby enhancing governance, driving informed decision-making, and improving overall operational oversight.
At the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Northramp designed and implemented a robust governance framework to automate the calculation and reporting of IT service performance metrics, while simultaneously improving data quality. This solution is built around an Operational Data Store (ODS) that centralizes data from critical sources, SQL-based ETL scripts to cleanse and transform raw data, and automated calculation workflows for key performance indicators. We leveraged SQL for seamless data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL), which streamlined the process and ensured high data integrity throughout. These dashboards provide clear visibility into key trends and metrics, enabling better decision-making through enhanced data accessibility and empower OCIO service owners through self-service reporting.
At the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Northramp significantly improved data quality for reporting by implementing advanced data ingestion, transformation, and cleansing techniques on Google Cloud. The solution leveraged a suite of tools, including Datastream for real-time data replication, Dataform for managing SQL-based data transformations, Composer and Airflow for orchestrating workflows through Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs), and BigQuery for scalable, serverless data warehousing. This was further enhanced by integrating BigQuery with abilities available in Vertex AI, which could allow the team to build and deploy machine learning models directly on the processed data. This seamless integration between BigQuery and Vertex AI ensured that FEMA could leverage both historical and real-time data for advanced analytics and AI-driven decision support. The end-to-end pipeline not only streamlined data processing but also empowered FEMA with accurate, dependable, and intelligent insights to respond effectively to emergencies.
